A Musical Pub Tour of Ireland IN QUEST OF THE CLASSICS (Phyllis Dale has personally escorted groups on this tour)
DAY 1: DUBLIN On arrival at Dublin Airport, you are met by a top class driver/guide and a private deluxe coach and transferred to Dublin’s City Centre for panoramic sightseeing and a tour of the Guinness Storehouse before checking into the Mont Clare Hotel for 2 nights. The rest of the day is free to relax.
DAY 2: DUBLIN AND SURROUNDS The morning is free for individual sightseeing or shopping. At noon, travel south to “Johnny Fox’s” pub in the Wicklow Mountains. “Johnny Fox’s” is Ireland’s highest located pub and is renowned for its musical bar & restaurant. Enjoy a traditional lunch and music session here before returning to the hotel in the late-afternoon and prepare for a Traditional Dublin Musical Pub Crawl, where two professional musicians lead guests around famous pubs and bars in the city centre area and play music at each bar. (3 drinks – beer or wine - included per guest)
DAY 3: COUNTY DONEGAL Travel northwest from Dublin today, stopping at Bru na Boinne and the Newgrange visitor centre. Then on to Omagh for a visit to the Ulster American Folk Park before arriving in Co. Donegal, where guests will be checked in to An Chuirt (www.anchuirt-hotel.ie) for 2 nights. This evening, travel to Leo’s Tavern, home of the famous Irish singer, Enya. Dinner included here before some traditional Irish music played by Leo, Enya’s father. Return to the hotel for overnight.
DAY 4: LOCAL TOURING Today, take the ferry to Tory Island, off the coast of Donegal, and meet Ireland’s last-recognized King, Patsy Dan Rodgers. Take a tour of Tory Island followed by lunch and traditional music with Patsy Dan and other local musicians. Take the mid-afternoon ferry back to the mainland and return to the hotel. Rest of the day is free to relax. For the “strong”, maybe back to Leo’s for another music session?
DAY 5: ENNIS Depart Co. Donegal today and travel south via Sligo to Tom Hennigan’s Heritage Farm, where a guided tour. On to Galway City, where there will be free time to explore and shop, before continuing to Ennis, where 2 nights at The Old Ground Hotel – A “pub crawl” in Ennis this evening (3 drinks – beer or wine - are included) with traditional music in the final pub.
DAY 6: LOCAL TOURING Relaxing touring today, first to the spectacular Cliffs of Moher, then on to the small town of Doolin for a pub lunch and a traditional music session (this could last A LONG TIME!), before returning to Ennis. Dinner included in the hotel tonight. Rest of the evening is free.
DAY 7: KILLARNEY This morning we’ll take the ferry across the Shannon from Killimer to Tarbert and travel south onto the beautiful Dingle Peninsula. The scenery around Slea Head is some of the finest in Europe, and the seafood in Dingle Town (stop here for an optional lunch) possibly the best in Ireland. Late-afternoon arrival in Killarney for three nights at the Muckross Park Hotel – Tonight enjoy dinner and a great Irish music session at “Molly Darcy’s” in the hotel.
DAY 8: LOCAL TOURING / OPTIONS Some options today: Maybe a tour of the Ring of Kerry, play 18 holes of golf on one of the 3 great courses at the Killarney Golf & Fishing Club, maybe do some walking in the National Park, take a boat trip out on the lake…. Evening is free to relax.
DAY 9: KILLARNEY A full day free to explore Killarney. Maybe visit Muckross House and Gardens, or take jaunting car ride, visit Ross Castle, or just shop in the town. This evening guests will do a “pub crawl” in the town, to include “Murphy’s Bar”, “The Laurels” and “The Tatler” – all play Irish music. (3 drinks – beer or wine – are included).
DAY 10: DEPART A transfer to Shannon airport for return flight.
