Day 2 - Explore Bucharest
Join your guide this morning and get to know the Romanian capital, once known as the ‘Paris of the East’. You’ll see the imposing Palace of Parliament, Metropolitan Church, Romanian Athenaeum, and open-air Folk Village Museum. Meals B
Day 3 - Across the Transylvania Alps to Sibiu
Visit the Curtea de Arges Monastery, one of the loveliest churches in Romania. Continue through Alpine landscapes into the scenic Olt River Valley to the 14th century Cozia Monastery. In picturesque Sibiel, enjoy the hospitality of a village family and then slumber peacefully at a local farmhouse inn. Meals B,D
Day 4 - World Heritage Sites and the birthplace of Dracula!
Tour Sibiu, once the richest town in Transylvania, and then visit Biertan to see the Saxon fortress-church . Continue on to Sighisoara – the best-preserved fortified town in Romania, where you see the Clock Tower Museum, Torture and Weapons Rooms, and the house where Dracula was born in 1432. Arrive in Brasov for dinner and check-in to the Curtea Brasoveana Hotel. Meals B,D
Day 5 - Out and about in Transylvania
Tour the fairytale town of Brasov, founded in the 12th century and home to the historic Black Church, so-named after its massive Gothic walls were blackened by a fire that devastated much of the town. Then visit Bran Castle, made famous by Bram Stoker’s novel. At a local museum housed in the country’s first school, Professer Olteanu Vasile presents a brief talk about Romania – past and present. Day 6 - From Brasov into Bulgaria
Travel through the famous “Valley of the Roses” to Veliko Tarnovo, former capital of the Bulgarian Empire. Check-in to the first class Yantra Hotel. Meals B,D
Day 7 - Explore ancient Veliko Tarnovo
Explore the medieval quarter of Veliko Tarnovo and historic Tsarevets Hill. In picturesque Arbanasi, the Church of the Nativity is richly decorated with 17th century frescoes. Meals B
Day 8 - Through the Shipka Pass to Plovdiv
Visit the open-air museum in Etara and cross the Balkan Mountains through the scenic Shipka Pass to Kazanlik to see an ancient Thracian Tomb and Hellenistic frescos of the 3rd century. Tour the Old Town in ancient Plovdiv and check-in to the Trimontium Princess Hotel. Meals B,D
Day 9 - The Rila Monastery and onward to Sofia
Tour the 10th century Rila Monastery , famed for its amazing frescoes. Continue to Sofia and your hotel, the deluxe Hilton Hotel. Meals B
Day 10 - Discover Sofia
Visit the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Saint Nicholas Church and the Rotunda of St. George Church, the oldest in Sofia. Enjoy a free afternoon before our farewell dinner. Meals B,D
