Day 1 - Welcome to Ulaanbaatar!
Check in to the Ulaanbaatar Hotel, a comfortable, superior first class landmark in the heart of bustling downtown. Later at the Museum of Natural History, your guide will show you a splendid collection of dinosaur artifacts excavated from various sites around Mongolia. Day 2 - City Sightseeing and Excursion to Terelj National Park
Built more than a century ago, Gandantegchinlen Monastery is the largest and most significant monastery in Mongolia. It is the only one where Buddhist services have continued uninterrupted over the decades, even throughout the Communist era.
Continue your exploration at the Museum of Natural History, focusing this time on the cultural history of Mongolia from the Turkic and Mongol Empires through the rise of Buddhism up to the present day.
In the afternoon, journey to Terelj National Park where three of Mongolia’s greatest rivers have their source. Immerse in the windswept landscape of this remote steppe region. These pristine open grasslands, waterways and dramatic rocky outcrops are home to a surprising diversity of plant, animal and bird species. Day 3 - Into the Gobi!
Fly into the Gobi Desert, a remote and exotic region that has long fired the imaginations of explorers, adventurers and intrepid travelers like you! Despite the harsh environment and extreme temperature changes across the seasons, the captivating landscapes of the Gobi are full of wildlife including Blacktail gazelle, antelope, Argali sheep and wild camels.
Your in-depth exploration includes a morning hike in Yol Valley National Park, a great opportunity to photograph amazing natural wonders like the Gobi Glacier and dramatic river-carved gorges.
This evening, settle at the Three Camel Lodge Camp for an unforgettable 2-night stay in the Gobi Desert! Day 4 - Discover Bayan Zag – the Flaming Cliffs
Today’s scenic journey follows in the footsteps of “the real Indiana Jones.” Roy Chapman Andrews was an early 20th century explorer who later became a director of the American Museum of Natural History in New York. It was here at Bayan Zag where Mr. Andrews found the first-known nest of fossilized dinosaur eggs.
The stark yet captivating landscapes of the Flaming Cliffs are also known for petrified forests and the remains of mammals like the hornless rhinoceros.
Continue on to the Moltsog Els Sand Dunes before returning to Camp for dinner. Then visit a nearby camel breeder camp to learn about nomadic life in the Gobi. Meals B,L,D
Day 5 - Return to Ulaanbaatar
After breakfast at Camp, transfer to the airport for your return flight to Ulaanbaatar. Visit the Bogdo Khaan Winter Palace, former home of the last Mongolian King and now a respected museum featuring his private collection of Buddhist and traditional Mongolian artworks. Enjoy a free afternoon to explore at your own pace before this evening’s farewell dinner. Overnight at the Ulaanbaatar Hotel. Meals B,L,D
