December 5 Day 9 Macapa, Brazil At the mouth of the mighty Amazon River, Macapa is a city surrounded by jungle and the lush greenery of the Brazilian rainforest. The Amazon is home to one-third of the world's living species. You will want to take a jungle cruise to photograph the many animals, including colorful parrots. Also, you'll be able to buy art and pottery from native Indian tribes in the Ver-o-Peso market. This will be an outstanding port of call.

It's splendid opera house, the centerpiece of this "Paris of the Jungle" where wealthy rubber barons enjoyed performances of Verdi and Puccini, has been magnificently restored. See the "Meeting of the Waters" where dark and light rivers meet and run parallel for miles. You'll want to book the jungle cruise excursion. Watch for pink dolphins.
